THE PROBLEM

Whoever controls the model controls the theology.
The church didn't write the rules.

0

theology gap between generic AI and Christian-trained models.

0

of pastors now use AI for sermon preparation.

0

of churches have zero AI policy in place.

THE ORIGIN STORY

I was in Cebu when I saw the Facebook post. A pastor friend shared a reaction video from The Christian Worldview Podcast — they were responding to a Pastor's Notebook video showing how to generate a full sermon with ChatGPT. The reaction called it “how to make a sermon the lazy way.”

The comments were on fire. Pastors calling it compromise. Others defending it. Nobody was asking the right question: who controls what the AI says about God?

As an ex-pastor of 8 years and a full-stack developer of 7 years, I live in both worlds. I knew the church was having the wrong conversation. The question is not whether AI is evil or whether pastors are lazy. The question is: whoever controls the model controls the theology.

Researchers measured it. Generic AI models score 61 out of 100 on Christian worldview accuracy. Models trained on Christian data outperform by 30 points. Same engine. Different training. Completely different theology.

So I needed to say something. This book is what I needed to say.

WHAT YOU GET

Evidence. Framework. Action steps.

🔥

The FORGE Framework

Five questions that keep you in the driver's seat. Fire First, Own the Source, Refine Don't Receive, Guard the Gate, Exercise Without. Fits on an index card. Works for a generation.

📊

The 30-Point Gap

The data that proves the thesis — same AI engine, different training, 30-point difference in theological output. Why your choice of tool matters more than your prompt.

⚠️

The Deskilling Trap

Research from aviation, medicine, and law showing how AI convenience degrades the very expertise it requires. Applied to sermon prep for the first time.

📋

One-Page AI Policy Template

A FORGE-structured policy your church can adopt in one meeting. Approved tools, sequence requirements, mode classifications, review process, training investment.

🗺️

The AI Spectrum Map

Every ministry task classified as Augmentation, Automation, Agentic, or Sacred Ground — so you know exactly where AI belongs and where it doesn't.

📖

AI Fluency as Discipleship

The 4D Framework for teaching your congregation: Delegation, Description, Discernment, Diligence. A 4-week discussion guide included.

THE FORGE FRAMEWORK

Five questions. Five fingers. One hand on the hammer.

Your theology should be forged — heated by prayer, shaped by study, tested against Scripture. Not downloaded.

F

Fire First

Did I study the text before opening AI?

The generation effect: you remember what you generate, not what you consume. (.40 effect size across 86 studies)

O

Own the Source

Do I know who built this tool and what theology it teaches?

30-point gap: same AI engine, different training = different theology. (Gloo Christian AI Benchmark)

R

Refine, Don't Receive

Am I directing the AI, or is it directing me?

Harvard/BCG: AI helps inside your expertise frontier but harms outside it. (758 consultants studied)

G

Guard the Gate

Have I verified this against Scripture and my denomination?

AI is 34% more confident when hallucinating. 46.1% of wrong recommendations followed by professionals.

E

Exercise Without

Can I still do this without AI?

Lancet study: doctors' detection rates dropped 20% after routine AI use. The skill you don't practice is the skill you lose.

WHO THIS IS FOR

Written for the pastor who's already using AI — and the one who isn't sure yet.

For the Quiet User

You've already tried AI for sermon research. You felt the tension between the usefulness and the guilt. This book gives you a framework that resolves that tension — so you can use the tool wisely and talk about it openly.

For the Skeptic

You've heard the hype and you're not buying it. Good. This book isn't hype. It's 756 data points showing exactly how unreliable AI is on your theology — and a framework for using it anyway, with your eyes wide open and your Bible within arm's reach.

For the Church Leader

You know AI is already on your staff's laptops. You need a policy, a training framework, and a shared language for the conversation you haven't had yet. This book gives you all three — ready to implement this week.

For the Denominational Leader

You're responsible for hundreds of pastors navigating this transition. The 6-session discussion guide, the policy template, and the benchmark methodology are designed for training contexts. The book is the curriculum.

THE AUTHOR

Karl Alibuas

Karl is an ex-pastor of 8 years and a full-stack developer of 7 years. He lives in both worlds — the pulpit and the code. He founded AI Fluency Ministry after seeing pastors and developers talking past each other about AI in the church — one side calling it evil, the other building without theological accountability.

He built OpenLumin — a free Bible research tool with 16 named scholarly sources that retrieves evidence instead of generating theology. He developed the FORGE framework from deep research into AI augmentation, deskilling, and the documented 30-point gap between generic AI and Christian-trained models.

“I saw pastors and developers fighting on Facebook about AI. Both sides were missing the point. The question was never ‘is AI evil?’ The question was: who controls the model? That's what I needed to say.”

Pastors, Bible teachers, church staff, and ministry leaders who already use AI (or are considering it) and want a framework for doing it wisely. Whether you're using ChatGPT for sermon prep or setting AI policy for your church, this book meets you where you are.

Not at all. This book is pro-wisdom. AI is a powerful research tool — the problem is when pastors don't know who controls the model or how it shapes theology. The FORGE framework gives you five questions that keep you in the driver's seat.

Five questions every pastor should ask: Fire First (did I study before AI?), Own the Source (who built this tool?), Refine Don't Receive (am I directing AI?), Guard the Gate (have I verified this?), Exercise Without (can I still do this without AI?). Five fingers, one hand on the hammer.

The author comes from an Assemblies of God background, and the benchmark chapter uses AG theology as a case study. But the FORGE framework, AI policy template, and practical guidance work for any evangelical denomination. The principle is universal: whoever controls the model controls the theology.

OpenLumin is a free Bible research tool built by AI Fluency Ministry. It retrieves evidence from 16 scholarly sources instead of generating AI opinions. The book explains the research problem; OpenLumin is the practical solution. Both are free.
